At the moment as a graduate I am trying to find out about potential opportunities throughout the business and gaining as much experience as possible so that when I exit the graduate programme I enter the part of the business that excites me most and I see the most potential for growth.

Plenty of initiatives, and new projects are always welcomed.

Highly dependent on your business unit and team. Overall experience minimal cost is spent on internal networking functions or social events which promote culture. As I've worked across the business I've worked within many teams. Some of which are better than others.

Our company hires every ethnicity and gender, from what I've seen, and it makes it such a good place to be a part of, as we are able to connect with people all around the world

I have been surprised by the level of responsibility that I have been given so far. This has allowed me to grow as a young engineer but also feel supported.

I am satisfied with my managers at Downer. They are very supportive and provide really sound advice that proves to be incredibly useful on a day-to-day basis.

The company offices are pleasant to work in and have the basic facilities like restrooms, lunchrooms, carparks, etc. Also, the dress code is generally long shirts and long pants in the office. Usually, shoes varies between work boots and sneakers/dress shoes.

I was invited to attend the intern assessment centre in 2020, and secured an internship. My performance in this role and the experience it gave me helped tremendously in my graduate application. I had already built rapport with some of the interviewers and this helped me to relax and interview well.

The starting pay is industry competitive. I have not experienced any bonuses.

The YP Technical Forums monthly have been a good opportunity to see the different sides of the business. The YP Conference in Wellington was really fun, and an amazing opportunity to connect with others from across the country.

In my current rotation, the hours can be quite long most days of the week. The main reason for this is my responsibilities as a site engineer and then doing the admin work back in the office at the end of the day. Some days can be 11-hour days, however, the company is more than willing to give us late starts or early finishes to compensate.

The framework is beginning to form at a high level, however, this is yet to 'trickle down' and like most environmental initiatives it really won't unless hard rules are put into place. However, it should be noted that we are moving in the right direction.
