If you are in your second or third year of study at the university studying engineering, engineering science, mathematics, statistics or related qualifications then we want you to apply for an internship with Stantec. Scope of work

The Wellington water team are involved in a wide variety of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater projects around the region, including pipe renewals and upgrades, design and construction of infrastructure such as pump stations and culverts, and wastewater and drinking water network planning and design.

A typical day on the job may include:

• Site visits to review project progress, perform tests and completing site walkovers to ensure sites are operating safely.
• Using CAD software to develop designs and assist with drawings.
• Assisting project management at all project stages.
• Performing data analysis and design calculations.
• Attending workshops, training, and career development opportunities.
• Reviewing drawings and designs for construction projects.
• Assisting with work on drinking water and wastewater treatment plants.
• Writing risk assessments, reports, memos, and other project management documentation.

Some projects that interns were involved with over the 2022/2023 summer included:

• Using innovative tunnel boring technology to install a brand-new wastewater pipe under some of Wellington’s busiest roads, all without disrupting traffic.
• Upgrades of drinking water and wastewater treatment systems at many different sites across Wellington.
• A complex bridge upgrade ensuring the protection Wellington’s drinking water supply in the event in an earthquake.

Who can apply

To be eligible to apply you must:

• Be in your second or third year of study
• Currently studying a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Hons) or Bachelor or Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering Diploma
• Preferably have a full clean current driving licence
• Able to commence work from mid-November 2023 to mid-February 2024 (Flexible)
