The Clutha Mata-au River is home to Aotearoa's unique longfin Tuna. Hydropower stations interrupt the natural migration of Tuna trying to reach warmer waters near Tonga for spawning. Each summer we usher adult Tuna and Elvers up and down the awa. In 2022, our team trapped and transferred 227 adult Tuna and 198kh of elver over the dam. When the elver reaches the Roxburgh Dam they climb a specially built ramp before entering a safe holding tank.
