Please tell us about promotion possibilities and fill us in on what it takes to move up the ranks.
Growth and professional development is a strong focus at Beca and we're all about helping you with it. It not only benefits us graduates but also the company as we'll then have stronger talent. There's the usual progression in expertise within your business line (e.g. junior to intermediate, to senior etc), but there's heaps of other types of opportunities like becoming a job manager (i.e. manager for a project), becoming more of a client-facing representative to win Beca some work from potential clients, or becoming a technical guru and helping the company develop tools and processes to improve us do what we do. All of these contribute to climbing the Corporate ladder.

I haven't really looked into it or know, it seems slow but that's because I'm new and havent received one

So far, i have processed quickly, moving from CL2 to CL4 in one year which was great recognition for my hard work. It does seem to take a while to move up through the intermediate career levels which is fine as long as responsibilities are fairly compensated with pay.

The manager explains the process of promotion and career progression really well every year during the review period. We have many colleagues who have been working here for a long time and they are good examples of career progressions.

Seems like at the start its just time. Haven't seen a clear way of how to move up the ranks. Seems that the next few grades up are even worse for pay comparability.

As a junior, you get 4 raises per year. I heard we are paid below the industry average, but the shares scheme is great (dividends pay out). People often work long hours to move up the career levels to get to that scheme.

I think that there is great opportunity for growth within the business however, I think that there is a somewhat obscured lens to this and it is not always based on merit.
Midlevel
I feel that there are good opportunities to be promoted at Beca as long as you have management that support you and your growth. I have been told about the 'bell curve' and that not everyone can be promoted, I have seen this in my team where people who are working above their career level are not being promoted as it "is not their turn".

There is a clear path for career progression in my team and I understand clearly what skills are needed to develop to move up the ranks. There are clear position descriptions for each career level. Improving technical, business acumen, and leadership skills all contribute to career progression. People can also move between teams if they would like a career change.

Opportunities and pathways are well defined. Clarity on requirements for development is always provided given you ask the right questions.

I'm optimistically skeptical. Definitely early on plenty of potential to promote, I think once you get to that intermediate stage though you can get stuck there for a while - would say it depends on the individual though. Like anything you get rewarded for the things you go get, if you sit and don't ask for anything or don't take initiative to fill in your own gaps you're less likely to progress. There's plenty of opportunity to progress.

The manager only goes to set people to get feedback and does not consider the whole teams opinion when thinking about promotions

Promotion possibilities at Beca depend on acquiring technical skills like AutoCAD proficiency and showcasing leadership abilities, such as being a lead designer. Advancement is typically based on consistent performance, taking on more significant project responsibilities, and aligning with the company's values and goals.

Grad program is long so limited opportunties for faster progression but after that the prospects are promising
